BUSINESS & COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT THROUGH INTERNSHIPS, JOB SHADOWING & MENTORSHIPS
Objective
Improve student career awareness, as well as, promote community partnerships that are mutually beneficial to both parties.
Ongoing Strategies
District Wide
- Longitudinal data collection to provide insightful analysis in reviewing strategies that support this goal.
Elementary Level
- Career Awareness instruction using the School Counselor Model Academic Standards.
- Elementary Career Week.
- Local hospital visits and community partner walking tours.
- Emergency Services visits to schools.
- Dental Awareness Instruction from local clinic (4K and 2).
- Leadership application & interviews (5).
Middle Level
- Career Awareness instruction using the School Counselor Model Academic Standards.
- Mock interviews, which include an application process through online application at MEC. Top performers of Mock Interviews take local business tour (7).
- Girls STEM Day (Science-Technology-Engineering-Math) at UW-Stevens Point (7-8).
- Student research and prepare a career movie prior to scheduling high school classes (8).
- College field trips to 2 and 4-yr. universities and 2-yr. technical colleges (7-8).
High School
- Meet with city and county planners to develop a relationship centered on the supply and demand of graduates and jobs.
- WHS Network Representative a member of Chamber of Commerce.
- WHS Annual Spring Interview Day.
- Annual Reality Store (11-12).
- Partnerships with FVTC – Welding, CNA, Dual Credit Courses, Advanced Standing Courses (10-12)
- Partnership with NCTC – Wausau Dual Credit Printing Courses.
- Online Courses offered through FVTC and NETC (11-12).
- Youth apprenticeship opportunities through local businesses and manufacturers (11-12).
Accomplished Strategies
- Career Exploration Class for all 10th grade students starting at WHS in the 2017-2018 School Year
- Partnership with Fresh Start a program offering apprenticeships and course credit (11-12)
- Students volunteer at Culver’s through an A+ After School project

Priority 2
DEVELOP MARKETING OF THE DISTRICT & COMMUNITY THROUGH BRANDING
Objective
Improve student enrollment trends by promoting what the community and schools do well.
Ongoing Strategies
District Wide
- Meet with community planners to develop a brand to support both the community & school district.
- Develop a plan to publicize our schools’ successes, activities, and programs.
- Character Education Parent Newsletter.
- Service Learning to include Elementary Level outreach through guidance departments and grade level Holiday outreach. School Councils, National Honor Society, Key Club, and WHS Athletics are required to serve in-community service hours.
- Expectations from our District to break the cycle of poverty and create a community of middle class.
- Participate in Central Wisconsin Manufacturing Alliance.
- Title Night Celebration Video.

Accomplished Strategies
- Attended a Tri-County Regional Economic Development Corporation.

Priority 3
IMPROVE WORK AND PEOPLE SKILLS
Objective
Develop 4K-12th Grade Character/Career/Work/People Skills Action Plan.
Ongoing Strategies
District Wide
- Character Education Initiative.
- Responsive Classroom (4K-5) and Developmental Design (6-12) approach as a framework to social, emotional, and academic success.
- High School students network with Elementary students on future careers.
Elementary Level
- Boys Gentlemen’s Club – to develop positive skills through role modeling taught by a male instructor (3-5).
- Giraffe project to foster citizenship and inspire students to be helpful (RG grade 4).
- Businesses invited to walk & talk with our students.
- Peer Power Group – student led providing leadership (5).
- Basic computer coding (4-5).
Middle Level
- Student-led parent/teacher conferences (6-8).
- Career Cruising - a self-exploration and planning program that helps people of all ages achieve their potential in school, career and life. (6-12).
High School
- Workplace readiness through work-study, youth apprenticeship, culinary arts programing, CNA certification, welding certification, and business education programing.
- Resumes & interviews required of student applicants for Camp Parkside.
- Interviews required of all student applicants for A+ After School Program.

- Implemented professional dress policies for all staff.

- Work and people skills assessment rubric – a set of criteria used to assess student learning.

DEVELOP PARENTAL CONTRACTS PROMOTING SCHOOL INVOLVEMENT
Objective
Increase Parental Belonging at the School Setting; expectations to break the cycle of poverty and create a community of middle class.
Ongoing Strategies
District Wide
- Use of local newspaper, parent and classroom newsletters, Facebook™, and webpage.
- Migrant Family Night.
Elementary/Middle Level
- Home visits throughout the year (4K).
- Home visits and backpack delivery in August (KG).
- Title I Parent Compacts - working to promote student achievement and Title Parent Nights (K-8).
- A+ After School Family Nights (K-8).
- Grandparents Day (K-3).
- Parent involvement through PTO sponsored activities (K-8).
- Parents of Character Award Winners personally invited to Schoolwide CPR – Circle of Power and Respect (6-8) & Community Meetings (K-3).

Objective
Increase the support and open lines of communication to support students with mental health issues.

- Member of Wild Rose Hospital CHAT (Community Health Action Team - Long term Community Health Improvement).
- Member of Healthy Communities & Healthy Youth.
- Support of School Resource Officer and DARE grade 5 curriculum.
- Information protocol to communicate with County DHS.
- Trauma Informed Care Training –
a 5-step crisis response strategy. - Riverview partnership to become
“A Trauma Informed School”. - Student youth risk behavior surveys Therapeutic services provided within Parkside and WHS.
